iPhone is a multimedia, Internet-enabled mobile phone designed and marketed by Apple Inc. It has a multi-touch screen with virtual keyboard and buttons. The iPhone's functions include those of a camera phone and an iPod, in addition to text messaging and visual voicemail. It also offers Internet services including e-mail, web browsing, and local Wi-Fi connectivity. It is a quad-band mobile phone that uses the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) standard, hence has international capability. It supports the EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) data technology.
Using the iPhone with your Graduate Center Email
The iPhone includes a full featured email application. As such, you can use the same settings you would use to access your GC email from any other email application.
1. From the Home Screen, Tap "Settings"
2. Choose "Mail"
3. Tap "Add Account"
4. Choose "Other"
5. Select the "Exchange" or "IMAP" tab and enter the following information into the corresponding fields:
Name: Your name as you would like it to appear to the recipient of your email
Address: Your full GC email address "YOURNAME@gc.cuny.edu"
Description: This field is to distinguish the account from any others you may add to your phone.
Incoming Mail Server
Host Name: mail.gc.cuny.edu
User Name: (your GC email address before the @ symbol)
Password: (your GC password)
Outgoing Mail Server
Host Name: wa.gc.cuny.edu (you may need to use https://wa.gc.cuny.edu OR mail.gc.cuny.edu)
User Name: (your GC email address before the @ symbol)
Password: (your GC password)
6. Under Advanced Settings, set Authentication to "Password"; set Use SSL to "Off"
7. A port number may be automatically supplied in the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), e.g. wa.gc.cuny.edu:587 or wa.gc.cuny.edu:25
8. To finish, Tap "Save"
