Resetting Your GC Password Over the Internet Effective Spring 2007
This service enables GC students to reset their computer account passwords over the Internet by visiting https://pwreset.gc.cuny.edu
Users must register before using this service (see below)
- Due to security concerns, users unable to reset their passwords via the Internet must visit the Help Desk in-person and provide a valid GC ID card. Computer account passwords will not be reset over the telephone or via e-mail
Register your account at https://pwreset.gc.cuny.edu
- Enter your username and click Continue
- If you have not yet registered, the message “Unsuccessful. You are not registered” will appear
- Click Register
- Click Register again
Next:
- Enter your GC username
- Enter your GC password
- Click Continue
The e-mail address you provide here will receive registration confirmation and status messages (success or failure) from the Password Reset server whenever a user performs account maintenance (fig. 4). You will also need to answer a password challenge question that will be used if you forget your password and want to reset it again in the future. Submit your answer and wait for your Registration Confirmation at the email address you just provided.
Once you receive your Registration Confirmation now you can reset your account Close and reopen your web browser and navigate to https://pwreset.gc.cuny.edu
- Enter your User Name and click Continue
- Enter the answers to your challenge questions and click Continue
On the “Enter your new password” screen
- Enter a new password twice
- Click Continue
Note: Passwords must meet the following requirements
- Length may be from 8 to 15 characters long
- Passwords are case sensitive
- Expires 180 days after it is changed
- New passwords must be different from the three previous passwords
- Must include 3 of the following 4 character types:
- Lower case characters (one or more from a to z)
- Upper case characters (one or more from A to Z)
- Numbers (one or more from 0 to 9)
- Special characters (& or # or $ or @ or % or other characters)
Verify that your password has been reset and log out of the password reset system.
